Teaching Garifuna to children
A language survives when children hear it at home. Itara is not a children's app, but several parts of it work well with a child sitting next to you.
What works with young learners
- Word of the Day — one word, said out loud together, takes under a minute.
- Family and food vocabulary from the phrasebook — the words a child will use first.
- Úraga stories and archive film — listening time that is culture, not screen filler.
- Numbers and counting, used during ordinary tasks.
A note for parents and educators
Content on Itara is written for a general audience and is not age-graded. Adults should preview stories and film before sharing them with a class. Educators planning to use Itara in a classroom can reach us at hello@itara.live.
