Why Itara exists

Garifuna is recognised by UNESCO as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity, and it is still at risk: fewer children are learning it at home, and the people who carry it best are not always the people with a publishing platform. Itara was built so that a learner anywhere — in Dangriga, Los Angeles, London or New York — has somewhere to practise daily and hear the language in its own setting.
