Do these 3 things next

  1. Confirm the outlet works with something else plugged in.
  2. Check the door switch or latch — most machines refuse to run without it.
  3. Note the model number before searching for a part.

Steps

  1. Confirm power: test the outlet with a lamp or phone charger.
  2. Check the breaker and any GFCI reset button on the outlet or nearby.
  3. Check the door or lid switch — most washers, dryers, and microwaves refuse to run if it isn't fully latched.
  4. Look for a child lock or delay-start setting left on the control panel.
  5. Only then look up the model number and the specific error code.

When to call a professional

Electrical work

Most of this is yours to do. Call someone licensed if any one of these is true — it's a judgement call, not a defeat.

  • The breaker trips again after you reset it once.
  • You see scorch marks, melted plastic, or smell burning.
  • The wiring is cloth-covered, aluminum, or has no ground.
  • The work is inside the main panel or the meter.
