- Slide the old filter out and photograph the printed size.
- Point the new filter's arrow toward the blower.
- Set a recurring reminder for the interval you chose.

Steps
- Find the filter slot at the return vent or air handler and note the size printed on the frame.
- Slide the old filter out, matching the airflow arrow direction before you insert the new one.
- Write the date on the filter edge in marker.
- Check monthly, replace every 1 to 3 months depending on pets and dust.
- Clear two feet of space around the outdoor unit and rinse the fins gently with a hose.

- The fix would involve refrigerant of any kind.
- The unit trips its own breaker or short-cycles.
- You see ice on the lines in normal weather.
